There is no better mirror to the face
of humanity than the lullaby
Laid out on the stretch of interstate
Rising up to pierce the darkening sky.

I stare out at the sea of woven steel,
Amazed at the wonder I was watching,
Woven from wires and iron and zeal,
An eternal waltz rising, spiraling.

The endless cycle, the way of the world
Ever-changing as humans dig, then build
Then type, clicking and clacking fingers curled
Until they reach the bliss they overguild.

The closer we get, the more we persist
We target the future buried in mist.
